Empty cafe is a Fusion-Funk act based in Pune, India.  It is a Flute-Guitar concept that classical flautist Gandhaar Amin and Vinay started in 2008. The band draws heavily from Indian Classical and blues-jazz. Empty Café as a band has been striving to create a new image for ‘fusion music’, which is very different from the sound that most people associate it  with. They believe in actually fusing two genres and instruments together rather than just sticking them onto each other superficially. The name of the band is inspired by Jethro Tull’s classic song Empty Café. It’s a tongue-in- cheek take on the expectation that their music is not so bad, that a café goes empty.

Empty Café is a regular fixture at a lot of live music venues in Pune and Mumbai – Blue Frog, The Little Door, Swig, etc. They performed at the NH7 Weekender music festival in 2010. They were invited for the Ladakh Confluence in 2010. Empty Cafe’s EP titled ‘whatever its called’ that was released early 2013 was on #4 on NH7 radio charts in the week of their launch. Tracks off their album were also aired on Los Angeles based radio ‘The Uprising’ KPFK 90.7 FM LA. The Band was featured live across 7 cities on 94.3FM Radio One, where they aired their tracks, played live on the radio and spoke to an audience all over India. The band performed at the Revival of the BandStand Culture in April 2013 to a highly delighted and enthusiastic audience. Empty Cafe was also shortlisted for Coke Studio in 2013in the BlueFrog initiative ‘LeapFrog’ to Coke Studio, among hundreds of bands from all over India.

Vinay is the principal composer  and songwriter in the band, along with flute player Gandhaar Amin. Being one of the most promising acts around , Empty Cafe intends to blow away audiences all over the world with their unique sound and deep know how of two completely varied genres.
